Ronny Watts

Motivated to score, on the basketball court and in rehab

Ronny WattsLong-retired basketball star, motivational guru, and real estate executive Ronny Watts has resided at the Hebrew Home for several years to receive specialized care for disabilities originating from sports injuries. Motivated his entire life not just to succeed but to excel at all endeavors, he is now bringing true grit to a renewed intensive effort in our Post-Acute Care Center to stand, walk, and navigate himself with improved strength and agility.

In each 1-hour session — seven days a week — over the last year, Mr. Watts works out on the center's state-of-the-art equipment and uses the adjoining hallway as a walking track, with Restorative Tech Therapist John Dennis by his side urging him to extend the distance and build endurance. "Keep your head up, look forward," John calls out as he pushes the wheelchair behind the upright Watts and holds his safety belt. "Dennis is a great guy, the best! His encouragement to push myself further and further has been instrumental in helping me maintain what I've achieved," says Watts enthusiastically.

In addition to walking, Mr. Watts first demonstrates how he uses the SCIFIT Total Body Recumbent Elliptical to increase upper and lower-body strength and then performs standing toe raises to build up calves and ligaments and leg lifts using 5-pound weights strapped toWatts 2016. Bike his ankles — both in multiple sets of ten. He then holds up a Washington Post article, The Health Hazards of Sitting, that he carries with him as a prompt to keep striving to improve his overall health.

It's no exaggeration to say that Ron Watts fully gets the vital importance of daily exercise, thus explaining his determination to continue taking advantage of the Acute-Care Center's outstanding professional services.
