Loren Wilkerson:

Making the next day better than the last

Dr. Wilkerson and RoseAs a community, we're fortunate to have a full-time, on-site team of compassionate physicians uniquely trained and skilled to address the complex health needs of older adults. We are now delighted to announce that Loren Wilkerson, MD has become its newest member.

"Seniors often say to me, 'Well, what do you expect? I’m old.' In my mind," says Dr. Wilkerson, "there is no age that is too old for us to stop trying to make the next day better than the last. It’s this challenge that makes me love what I do."

Dr. Wilkerson comes to the campus from North Carolina where for three years she was on faculty at Duke University in the Geriatrics Division.

She received her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and then went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric Medicine fellowship at Duke University Hospital. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and a member of the American Geriatrics Society. Her professional interests include overall geriatric assessment, polypharmacy, delirium, and medical education.

As a geriatrician, Dr. Wilkerson enjoys spending time with her patients and their families, learning what she can do to help improve each patient’s quality of life. She is blessed with a loving husband and two small children who keep her busy at the end of a long work day.

"In my work as the geriatrician at Landow House and Cohen-Rosen House, I feel very privileged to be welcomed into my residents' homes," she said. "I have learned a lot from them and look forward to continuing to build long-lasting relationships with them and their caregivers. I want to help address what medical problems are of concern, but I also want to learn what I can do to help improve each resident's essential wellbeing."
