Warren Slavin. Headshot 2015, Annual MeetingOver the past year, the ElderSAFE Center and Brain Enhancement Program have celebrated some major accomplishments.

According to Tovah Kasdin, director of the ElderSAFE Center, "we provided non-shelter advocacy services to the 60 individuals and agencies that called our Helpline regarding elder abuse issues. From these inquiries and referrals we have sheltered four clients and provided them with holistic and medical services on our long-term care campus."

Tovah's team has educated more than 900 CESLC staff and 1,400 community members about elder abuse. The Center received a proclamation from Montgomery County Council recognizing its efforts to keep seniors safe.

The ElderSAFE brochure has been translated into Spanish and we now have a language interpretation service to assist non-English speakers who call the Helpline.

Of note, the Brain Enhancement Program has just received the Gold Award in the McKnight's Excellence in Technology Awards in the Dignity category for its use of interactive memory care and its impact on the quality of life for residents. The McKnight's award, according to a contest judge, is "one of the most prestigious awards in the senior living industry."

These two programs have expanded our services and allowed us to further the mission of Charles E. Smith Life Communities to fulfill Jewish values by providing a continuum of quality services for seniors and their families, and to affirm our commitment to the dignity of each individual. Coupled with the fact that the Hebrew Home has a five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, we can point with pride to our exceptional staff, Board, and donors and volunteers, all of whom enable us to maintain the highest standard of care campuswide.
