Instructors design projects to help residents access their inner muse

Rosh Hashanah eCard.2014Seniors at Landow House assisted living and Cohen-Rosen House memory care assisted living have benefitted from a special-organized hands-on arts program supported by the Ellen Gelman Special Exhibition Fund. Skilled instructors from VisArts, a non-profit arts center in Rockville, have led a three-month series of classes in both residences that encourage residents to stretch the boundaries of their creativity in different media: acrylic paints, tile decoration, fused glass construction, and ceramics.

T2014 Menorah. VisArtshe residents themselves thought up the name for this exciting program: Arts Alive! One of their paintings was used for the Charles E. Smith Life Communities Rosh Hashanah card (above), and on December 18, a selection of their pieces will be displayed at a festive Hannukah reception in Landow’s Gelman Art Gallery. Candles will be lit in the glass menorahs they designed.

It promises to be a beautiful event for residents and families. For more information, please call Marcia Westcott at 301.816.5056.
