The Key to Rehab Recovery: Dedicated Therapists & Personal Determination

James Weiss, Rehab SuccessJames Weiss has been a resident of Revitz House since 1992, and until a year ago, he was able to enjoy all that life offers, including a wide range of activities at his residence and the warm fellowship of friends.

But a year ago, in late 2012, Mr. Weiss began to experience persistent pain from lumbar stenosis and a pinched nerve. Corrective surgery was the recommended recourse, and fortunately the outcome was successful. Nonetheless, full recovery was not expected to be easy or immediate; it would require lengthy, extensive and demanding rehabilitation — of the caliber provided at the Hebrew Home's Elsie and Marvin Dekelboum Therapy Center.

Mr. Weiss participated in acute inpatient therapy at the Home's center for a month and then, discharged to an assisted-living facility, arrangements were made for him to travel to the Revitz House therapy suite where he could transition to outpatient physical and occupational therapy. Since moving back safely to his Revitz apartment in September, Mr. Weiss has maintained his therapy regimen and continues to make progress toward regaining strength and the capacity to resume his independent lifestyle. The advantages of an outstanding therapeutic program developed specifically for him and the encouragement he receives from staff cannot be overstated.

"You've got to make an effort, even when you're tired," asserts Mr. Weiss, seated comfortably in his Revitz apartment together with occupational therapist Kristen Brown, a member of his supportive rehab team.

"This wonderful gentleman always comes to therapy with a great attitude and determination," says Ms. Brown, who is proud to be a contributor to Mr. Weiss's successful recovery. The fact that he can once again derive pleasure from the things he loves and re-engage with his community make this story with a happy ending so gratifying for her and her colleagues.
