Sylvia Greenberg Brightens the Day for Residents

2013 Sylvia Greenberg

On June 25, 2013, a donor of exceptional warmth and kindness—Sylvia Greenberg—once again treated our residents to a lovely afternoon at Woodmont Country Club, where they enjoyed an elegant lunch and the music of a lively band. As expected, everyone enjoyed every minute!

Many years ago, before the Hebrew Home had relocated from Spring Road in Washington to its present Rockville campus, Mrs. Greenberg's parents Abe and Minnie Kay, of blessed memory, initiated what has become a remarkable tradition. Each year at Indian Spring Country Club, which they owned, the Kays would organize a delightful and highly anticipated luncheon for Hebrew Home residents.

When the club was sold several years ago, Mrs. Greenberg graciously agreed to preserve the 50-year-old tradition at Woodmont Country Club, and it's still going strong, with over 80 residents from throughout the Charles E. Smith Life Communities campus attending the now twice-a-year event.

"I can't remember if my mother said that I should continue this luncheon," said Mrs. Greenberg, speaking at the affair, "but I know how important it was to her."

Owing to our carefully coordinated transportation program, guests were picked up at each residence and comfortably brought to Woodmont. Upon their arrival, they were warmly greeted as special friends by Mrs. Greenberg at the dining room entrance. Before departing, they were all presented with a small, colorfully wrapped gift.

We are so grateful to Sylvia, for her special blend of compassion and thoughtfulness. She truly made the day a memorable one for our residents.
