Ring House: What's Cooking?

Something Delicious!

Chefs.YellowAt Ring House, creative juices are flowing...in the kitchen! Seeking to design a cuisine experience that's innovative, entertaining and fun, the Food Services staff has come up with an imaginative program: "Take-a-Trip Café." Bill Chambers, General Manager for Housing Dining Services, is collaborating in this exciting venture with Ring House Director of Dining Operations Matt Jenkins and Ring House Dining Room Manager Kwesi Stephen. Together the dynamic group organizes delicious menus, decorates the Ring House café and costumes the staff to fit the selected theme.

Everthing starts with a special postcard to all residents inviting them to sign up for a theme-based evening at our café. With seating limited to 16, the policy is first come, first served, and so reservations are required. Because of its popularity thus far, dining events are scheduled twice weekly, providing ample opportunity for interested residents to participate.

To date, residents have enjoyed Italian Opera Night and a journey down memory lane to a 50s-Style Diner. Most recently, they've been treated to an adventure in China, with egg drop soup, stir-fried chicken, fried rice and mango sorbet. Festive dragons and lanterns adorned the room and brightly-clad serving staff served the meal on tables covered with lively red tablecloths.

Chambers is working on developing a total of 12 dining experiences for this unique, change-of-pace way to give seniors new taste sensations and transport them beyond the Rockville campus.
