New book explores the spiritual side of life in senior communities

[object Object]

We take pleasure in announcing the recent publication of Flourishing In The Later Years: Jewish Pastoral Insights on Senior Residential Care, co-edited by Rabbi James Michaels, Director of Pastoral Care at the Hebrew Home, and Rabbi Cary Kozberg.  For professionals in the senior care community as well as families of residents who live there, this collection of 24 articles offers invaluable perspectives on how to energize and enrich the spiritual and religious lives of today’s seniors – including those who reside at Charles E. Smith Life Communities.

A unique feature of the book is the sensitive attention given to the particular needs of non-Jewish residents living in a Jewish-oriented care setting and, alternatively, the needs of Jewish seniors living in a Christian faith-based community. Former volunteer and current rabbinical student Joshua Stanton co-authored a chapter with the Home’s Director of Volunteers Hedy Peyser entitled “Lessons of a Lifetime: Creating Ethical Wills In Senior Residential Care Settings.”

The book costs $25 and is sold at Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites and is available in e-reader format. Please contact Rabbi Michaels at 301.816.7711 if you would like to purchase an autographed edition.
