In our random universe, interesting coincidences do happen. In the following story, the coincidence, revolving around the number 3, introduces us to three Iranian ladies - Askari, Homa, and Raze, their three arthritic knees, three knee replacement surgeries at Suburban Hospital on the same September day, and three subsequent admissions, on the same day, to Rakusin Rehabilitation Center.

Homa, 85, and Raze, 80, moved from Iran to join families in America over a decade ago. They met for the first time in this country and became fast friends. Aside from a mutual homeland, they shared something else: the same physician treating them both for worsening knee arthritis. When it became clear that surgery was the only remaining option for the ladies to obtain pain relief, they decided to schedule their surgeries and post-op rehab stays at the Hebrew Home at the same time.

Unbeknownst to Homa and Raze, a third Iranian, Askari, 70, who moved to America 20 years ago, also scheduled knee replacement surgery on that same September date—at the same hospital and with plans to recuperate at the Hebrew Home starting on the same day as Homa and Raze. On admission day, Askari and Homa were assigned to the same room in the Wasserman residence; Raze was placed in a room two doors down.

As of this writing, our three ladies have become three friends. They go to daily physical and occupational therapy together, and have only positive things to say about their experience. "Everyone is very nice, very good, very kind — like nothing I've seen before," says Raze, a retired professional nurse.

This is an exceptional story in which friendship and coincidence have mixed to create the perfect tonic to hasten a return to health!
